And finally… Radio first preview!

So. This is what this day's massive blog contribution actually is about. The first preview of Op-1's built in FM Radio! What you hear in this demo are some simple effects added and some channel selection in the end. There's also a sequenced beat playing parallel. Remember that this is a very early experiment. We still have some home work to do to fully explore the full potential of having a synthesizer with built-in FM radio (!) radiox

wow!! These are all amazing. I am so curious and look forward to see how all these sounds are generated (all knobs and parameters etc) aswell as the sequencers!!

  2. Allerian says:

And all this is in a small stand-alone synth… w00t!

  3. steve says:

Interesting sounds here. I am curious about something though. If I use the radio function in a recording situation, is it legal? even though it would be effected/mangled, isn’t it technically sampling which requires clearance?

  4. CUCKOO says:

    Fantastic new things!
This is the first synthesizer that has had me really excited in a very long time! All the sounds you show here are in my ears unmatched. Never heard anything like it before on any other synthesizer. Really eager to learn more about how your sound modelling methods work!

–> Steve. Of course you have to clear any use of copyrighted materials on a record. It’s up to you to decide the if you wanna try and get clearance or if you wanna take a chance. Just be honest and trust your gut feeling. ;)

Out of curiosity how does the fm radio work? Does it auto tune to a station, or is there a possibility of finding weird static and noise to play around with by moving the dials a bit?

  6. jesper says:

Yes. No auto tune. Turn encoder to find station. Weird noise easy to find.

  7. jesper says:

Cuckoo -Thanks man. Remember we aim for simplicity. So all demos are easy made. We only have four knobs you know.

  8. arvin says:

    that is pretty awesome then.

  9. linde says:

So how did the tuner work out? Is it digitally controlled and fast? Would be nice to sequence between radio channels, or modulate the channel frequency with an oscillator (FMFM :) )

  10. naoya says:

    this is freakin’ awsome!
    can’t wait to have.

  11. dosle says:

A function like this would be great for musician’s writers block too. Exciting stuff, TE.

  12. PerOddvar says:

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
Want! Want! Want! Want! Want! Want! Want! Want!

  13. apan says:

linde: Wow that’s a great idea, to modulate (lfo, envelope & stepsequence) between channels and frequency… I hope they can squeeze that in… :)

  14. ethan says:

maybe there should be a function where you can record clips to memory, use them like an mpc on some of the keys and do some crazy stuff that will make people shit their pants
