New team member!

We are very happy to announce that we got a new teenage engineer onboard. He has traveled a long way, already been doing super awesome OP synth development from all over the world. Kool!

Any chance you could post a few awesome OP synth samples from the current development?

New sound up in a minute!

  3. a perilously balanced laptop in a picturesque surrounding :)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH :) for posting all these new awesome OP synth samples! From the very first sound of the samples, I couldn’t stop grinning… and every-time I listen to one, I can’t help but grin. This will definitely be a very fun synth to play with and incorporate into my music, I can’t wait to own one! :) So, is there any chance of pre-ordering? Also, is the OP-1 still on schedule for a very early or mid 2010 Q1 release?

Oh! I’ve been meaning to ask, is the OP-1 still going to have a built-in Li-Ion battery? If so, will the user be able to easily replace/remove it if/when it no longer holds its charge? Also, would the OP-1 still function without the battery inside it while the AC Adapter/Plug is attached to a wall socket for power? Or does the battery need to be inside the OP-1 in order for the power to pass from the AC Adapter/Plug into the OP-1?

One again, thank you for posting the samples and for replying to the questions when you can.

n/a, thank you for nice feedback. Quick reply: 1) Maybe 2) Yes 3) Yes, and possible to replace. 5) Hmm. David?

  6. David says:

The OP can operate without a battery using external power. Li-Ion batteries are much better quality now though, you can get several years life nowdays.

This is always a problem with “modern” electronics, some parts just aren’t made to work forever. But this also goes for old synths where the electrolytic capacitors gets dried out and need to be replaced.

Hi jesper and David, thank you for responding to my questions.

I have a few more questions:

    1) Will the OP-1 be able to do Granular Synthesis?

    2) In a video, it was mentioned that the OP-1 could be used as a mass-storage device when connected to a computer via USB. If you are able to share the info, how much storage space will be available to the user? What type of files would/could be store in that space? What would be interesting –but I don’t know if it would be possible?– is if an image file (BMP) was stored on the built-in storage, the user would be able to convert the image file into sound with the OP-1 and incorporate that sound into their music.

  8. jesper says:

    1) Well… 2) Good idea.

Thanks jesper for answering my questions. :)

When I was talking about the built-in battery a few comments ago, I forgot to ask, will there be a visual indicator (in form of an icon or percentage) of how much power remains?

  10. jesper says:

    Yes it will have.

  11. n/a says:

Questions about the new power source. I recently received the first OP-1 email newsletter, and it mentioned that the OP-1 will be using USB as the power source for both, charging and powering the OP-1. Now, what I’m wondering, how will the user be able to charge the battery or power the OP-1 when there is no access to a USB port? Will there be an adapter included with the OP-1 that converts USB-to-Wall Socket Plug?

  12. jesper says:

    Yes. Maybe included, maybe optional.
